Graduated from Academy with academic honors. While awaiting first assignment at Starbase Earhart, Picard was seriously injured in an altercation, resulting in his receiving an artificial replacement heart. In his early career, Picard led an away team to planet Milika III, distinguishing himself in rescue of an endangered ambassador. By 2333, Picard was assigned as bridge officer on the U.S.S. Stargazer. When its captain was killed, Picard took command of the bridge. Picard was later given command of the Stargazer. Undertook historic mission of deep space exploration. In 2355, Stargazer was destroyed in Maxia Zeta system by Ferengi spacecraft. Picard was court-martialed for loss of vessel per standard Starfleet procedure, but cleared of charges. In 2363, Picard appointed first captain of fifth U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-D. Undertook seven-year mission of exploration and diplomacy. Served with distinction. In 2364, declined offer of a promotion to the admiralty. In 2365, made first contact with hostile alien Borg race outside Federation space, due to interference of cosmic entity Q. In late 2366, during Borg attack on Federation, Picard abducted and surgically transformed into entity known as Locutus, forced to provide assistance during Borg assult on Sector 001. Retrieved by Enterprise crew and restored to human state, but spent several weeks recovering from physical and psychological trauma. In 2367, served as Arbiter of Succession of Klingon Empire following the death of Klingon leader KΓÇÖmpec. When civil war erupted between PicardΓÇÖs choice, Gowron, and the rival Duras sisters, Picard assisted in blockading a Romulan supply convoy, resulting in GowronΓÇÖs victory. Picard was captured by Cardassians while on a covert mission in 2369. Imprisoned and tortured for three weeks before he was released. In 2371, Picard found long-believed-dead Captain James T. Kirk in the Nexus energy field, as he attempted to stop Dr. Tolian SoranΓÇÖs destruction of the Veridian system. Though SoranΓÇÖs plan was foiled, Kirk was killed by Soran, and the Enterprise-D destroyed on Veridian III. Picard took command of the sixth U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701-E in 2372. In 2373, when the Borg made their second incursion into Sector 001, Picard violated orders to go to Earth to fight them. After following the Borg vessel back in time to 2063, Picard and his crew defeated the Borg ship and saved EarthΓÇÖs timeline.
